The Unexpected is a downtown revitalization project created by 64.6 Downtown. The project began in 2015 and has transformed downtown Fort Smith into a world-class destination for urban and contemporary public art. The growing collection of permanent/semi-permanent outdoor art now includes more than 30 pieces by highly sought after international artists such as D*Face, Ana Maria, Askew, Okuda San Miguel, Bordalo II, Maser, and so many others.
The project culminates in an annual, weeklong festival that adds to the unexpected collection and offers augmented activities expanding on art, music, and thought to create an enhanced cultural experience in downtown Fort Smith.
Come by Miss Laura's Visitors Center between the hours of 9 AM & 4 PM (Monday-Saturday) and 1 PM-4:30 PM (Sundays) to grab a copy of The Unexpected locator map or download the UnexpectedFS smartphone app from the App Store and Google Play, or go to UnexpectedApp.com to view an HTML-5 version of the app.
