  • Fort Smith artist Peggy Weidman will display her works at the Fort Smith Public Library during the month of. Peggy Weidman grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and was exposed to art an early age. She enjoyed visiting the galleries and 'painting with the masters'. Getting a new box of crayons was a great joy and when they added new colors...she was thrilled. She began painting as an adult many years ago under the teaching of Suzy Stoserg. She then ventured into oil under Beverly Kiefer. Painting was laid aside as she was busy with family activities. Then four years ago she followed the desire to try again. She studied pastels with Julie Mayser and now oils again with Ann Griffen. Weidman says, "I love color and it is fun to create something bright with lots of color. Many of my paintings are of places I have photographed during my travels. I find it a soothing, rewarding pastime. Peggy’s paintings will be on display at the Main Library through the end of May.

Outdoor: Lunar & Planetary" night
Location: Janet Huckabee River Valley Nature Center
Contact: bobmoody@aoas.org

  • The Arkansas Oklahoma Astronomical Society (AOAS) will host the public at theHuckabee Nature Center "Lunar & Planetary" night; craters on the moon, Saturn's rings, Binary Stars
  • Our Coleman Observatory facility is located 8 miles NW of Van Buren. From Coleman Observatory, we use our telescopes and binoculars to see our cratered moon, Jupiter's banded cloud patterns and retinue of satellite moons, and Saturn's exquisite rings. Seeing Titan, the largest moon in the solar system as it orbits Saturn every 16 days, and knowing a robotic explorer orbits around the Ring World while a successfully landed and now silent Huygens probe rests on that moon's surface, brings a "connection" the observer more real than seeing Saturn for the first time through a telescope. The experience must be felt to be understood, and yet, that's only the local neighborhood; just beyond lies the rest of the universe!

Cinderella, the ballet, was first presented by the Bolshoi Ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, November 15, 1945. Many versions have since been performed. The version closest to our interpretation was first presented by the Sadler’s Wells Ballet (later called the Royal Ballet) with the choreography by Frederick Ashton at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, December 23, 1948.
