TrailBlazers Hiking Club will hike the trail to Big Bluff on the Buffalo River. It is a strenuous 5.5-mile round trip to the 440-foot ledge where there are lots of interesting rock formations and great views of the River Valley. Going in is easy but coming out requires a 1,000-foot elevation gain in 2.75 miles–not steep enough for switchbacks, just a continuous uphill trek. The view is worth the effort. Free.

“Otto Lang: Drawing from Life” Exhibit

The Art Center started working on this undocumented collection of Otto Lang’s drawings about a year ago. Born in 1866 in Ohio, Lang filled sketchbooks with figure drawings, landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and ideas for his illustrative work. The exhibit from the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection is a sampling of his work selected from more than 350 drawings, watercolors and illustrations. The exhibit begins with Otto Lang’s landscapes from his hometown of Oshkosh, Wisc., progresses to his academic studies in Paris and ends with examples of his illustrations and caricatures. A number of works break down the drafting and sketching process for a magazine story on trout fishing. Free.

The general public is invited to enter the horticulture section. Entries must be in by 3 p.m. on March 22. Branches of trees or shrubs can be 18" to 30" for standard and 6" to 12" long for dwarf varieties. Potted plants 10" pots and under, however, there will be a section for oversized pots. There will be two sections of artistic designs, entered by members of the garden clubs in the council and judged by ceritfied Flower Show judges, but the visitors will be able to vote on their favorite design for "The Peoples Choice Award."
