On the Air Broadcasting Exhibit

Entitled “On the Air: 50 years of Broadcasting in Fort Smith 1922-1972”, the exhibit includes themed displays scanning the decades up to and well beyond 1972, ranging from the local media’s earliest days on Garrison Avenue to today’s collegiate media communications programs which have developed from the area’s rich media heritage.

The exhibit, which incorporates broadcasting technology and the cultural influence of television and radio within its displays, highlights collections of microphones, antique radios, and broadcast equipment through the decades, as well as memorabilia. Collectors and media professionals throughout the area have contributed their expertise and memorabilia to the project.

Two prominent news anchors - Channel 40/29’s Craig Cannon and Channel 5’s Daren Bobb – will speak at the opening reception of the Fort Smith Museum of History’s broadcasting exhibit on August 16. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and speaker comments will begin at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited.
